Josh Skaggs and Philip Sobey steward this parcel of fertile farmland in Auburn, California,
focusing on growing seasonal vegetables, caring for the soil, and using fresh water from the Bear River that runs alongside land.
Philip Sobey
Philip was born and raised in Los Altos, California, where he attended school. His family relocated to Auburn, California to live off the parcel of land that would become Bear River Farms.
After graduating college in Los Altos, he returned to Auburn where he could live a more rural life. In 2023, he partnered with Josh to start a farm-to-table business.


Josh Skaggs
Josh was born and raised on a ranch in Venezuela where he learned the basics of farming. He later moved to the US in his teenage years where he went to school in New Mexico. He later move to San Francisco to attend college.
After many entrepreneurial endeavors in the city, he decided to go back to his farming roots and start a farm with Philip.
